With sweater weather almost here, it's time to talk about ways to transition your skincare routine from Summer to Fall. By making some minor tweaks to your routine, you can ensure your skin stays healthy during the change of seasons.

Below you'll find some of Revercel's best tips to maintain healthy and glowing skin as the temperature gets cooler.

Tip 1: Change Your Moisturizer

Say ciao to the lightweight face moisturizer you used over the summer. It's the time of year to bring out stronger hydrators to prevent moisture loss. Consider using a formulation made with Omega fatty acids. Fatty acids occur naturally in the skin and may need to be replenished during the cooler months. Also, if you aren't already using a body moisturizer, Fall is a great time to add one to your daily skin care regimen. As humidity decreases in cooler months, the skin can become dry and itchy. Moisturizers offer a protective barrier, allowing the skin to retain hydration as well penetrating into the skin’s outer layer.

Bonus Tip: After bathing, immediately apply moisturizer while skin is still damp. This helps lock in water, naturally increasing hydration.

Tip 2: Boost Skin Hydration With Hyaluronic Acid

This autumn, consider adding a facial skin care product that includes the moisture boosting ingredient hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a powerful humectant (moisture-binding ingredient) that keeps skin plump, hydrated and youthful-looking. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring polysaccharide in the body. It’s present in the spaces between skin cells, where it provides plumpness, moisture, firmness and suppleness to the skin. As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin diminishes, especially after age 40.

We recommend Skin Replenishing Gel. It's refreshing gel-based formula delivers optimal moisturizing effects to minimize lines and improve elasticity. The key ingredient, hyaluronic acid, attracts and locks in moisture, producing a moist climate in the skin. Chamomile and green tea extract also add soothing and anti-inflammatory benefits.

Tip 3: Protect With SPF Year-Round

It’s false to believe that the sun isn’t as harmful to our skin when the temperatures are cooler. The majority of the UV damage we incur is due to sun exposure from day to day activities like driving in a car during daylight hours - harmful UV rays can penetrate glass. To keep your skin protected against premature aging and possibly skin cancer, experts advise using sunscreen year-round (even during the fall and winter months!). Make sure you'’re using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, higher if you’re at the beach or in the mountains.

Bonus Tip: Remember, sun protection is a year-round job! Be sure to apply a sunscreen to your face, neck, hands, and décolleté. Your skin will thank you and there’s an added benefit - people will never be able to guess your age!

Tip 4: Brighten Dull Skin

Did you know that the most common cause of uneven skin tone and dull, muddy skin is sun exposure? If summer sun exposure has resulted in autumn skin dryness and blotchy/uneven patches try these tips.

  • Use vitamin C: To help reduce the damage and improve the tone and texture of your skin, we suggest CE Serum Tri-Antioxidant Therapy. In addition to L-ascorbic acid, this anti-aging triple threat product contains tocopherol (vitamin E) & ferulic acid.  All three act to synergistically ward off free radicals, reducing the appearance of brown spots, fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Use an exfoliator: In addition to revealing fresh skin cells, an exfoliator removes dead cells from pores, making them appear smaller.
  • Use a skin brightener: Licorice extract is composed of glabridin, which is a natural extract used for reducing skin reddening and de-pigmenting skin. Glabridin also shows anti-inflammatory properties and it exhibits tyrosinase-blocking activity to reduce pigmentation. Daisy flower extract may help even-out blotchy skin, and Green Tea extract helps to reduce hyper-pigmentation and inflammation.

Seasonal changes can absolutely create change in skin. By following these skin tips and switching up your skin care routine a bit, you can keep it looking and feeling its best. Do you have any tips or tricks you’d like to share?
